What's Happening?![]() SUNDAY NIGHT WITH HOPEWELL STUDENT MINISTRIES This Sunday night we'll be back to the basics. We'll get together at 6pm for basketball, cooking, and hang out time in our Cafe and Upper Room. At 7pm, the middle school and high school worship bands will bring the noise, leading us in worship. Jon will be hanging out with the high school students, giving a message called "Too much, too soon," a reminder of how we need to guard our hearts and bodies. Jacqui dropping some word knowledge on our middle school students. Please always feel free to contact Jon with any questions on the nights schedule or teachings.
SUNDAY SCHOOL
HIGH SCHOOL LIFEGROUPS High school girls will not meet this week. High school guys will be meeting this week at Pat Burke's house from 6:00pm-7:30pm. Text or call Jon if you need directions.
HE HAS RISEN: GO AND TELL My friends, as we enter this season of Lent, it's important that we remind ourselves of the journey of our savior, Jesus Christ. If you're anything like me, you've heard the Easter story plenty of times you could retell it in your sleep. The danger for you and me is that a story of a world wide revolution that flips the whole system upside down, year after year, becomes mundane. So to make sure that we don't miss this message, it's important we join our church family in study. I want to personally invite and encourage each of you to join a study going on during this season of Lent called "He Has Risen; Go and Tell." Our own Pastor Steve Morton has put together a thought provoking study that is sure to guide us through this Easter journey. I am teaching a class on Monday nights for young adults. There are also MANY other classes on many different days. Jump in, get involved. He has risen!! Go and tell.
HOPEWELL SUMMER BEACH RETREATS 2012 If you look outside, you'll still see the February winter. That's true! But the reality is, summer is really just around the corner, and it's time to get ready! This summer we have two beach retreats. Our high school students will be in Ocean Grove, NJ from June 29th-July 2nd. We'll be staying in a hotel right near the beach, catching some sun during the days, and praising God by night. And of course there's our annual middle school beach retreat to Henlopen. This year we'll invade Rehobeth from August 3rd-August 8th.
Students planning on attending one or both retreats need to make a $50 deposit, per retreat, by April 29th, 2012. Only students who turn in a deposit by April 29th will be eligible to attend the beach retreats. Both retreats cost $150 dollars per student. We'll be offering a sibling discount (full price for one, $50 dollars off for each additional sibling) for both retreats. Rising 9th grade students (current 8th grade students) will have the option of going on either or both retreats. Contact Jon with any questions.
PICK UP YOUR BOWL-A-THON FUNDRAISING SHEET TODAY This is by far our easiest and most fun fundraiser of the school year! On March 2nd, 2012, we'll head to the Bowling Palace to bowl for summer missions. After we're done, we'll Lock-In at Hopewell UMC for games, food, and movies. But there's work to do before March 2nd! Bowling donation forms can be picked up from Jon's box outside the church office, from Jacqui on Sunday nights, or via email. Students have two options this year. They can either raise a minimum of $55 dollars by getting one time or by pin donations. Students also can opt out by paying a one time cost to Hopewell UMC of $70. And here's some incentive: the student that raises the most money will have the option of attending a summer 2012 beach retreat free of charge. All money received, after paying the cost of bowling, will go towards offsetting the cost of summer missions.
30 HR FAMINE APRIL 27TH-28TH, 2012 Our 30 Hr Famine is approaching fast! This year we'll be staying at Hopewell, locking in for an evening of fun, worship, and remembrance and honor to those who go without. We'll start the evening Friday night at Hopewell, staying the night and doing mission work in the morning time. The event will end with a "love feast." Mark your calendars! This is going to be a memorable event. This event is open to both middle school and high school students.
I'm VERY excited to announce that one of our own students, Steph Collins, will be running this year's 30 Hr Famine! Steph, with my and other adult help, will be putting on a great event. In preparation for this event, we want to collect any mason jars that you may have. We'll be using them for a special fundraiser for the 30 Hr Famine. All proceeds will go to organizations designated by 30 Hr Famine.
2ND ANNUAL HIGH SCHOOL URBAN MISSIONS WEEKEND May 11th-13th, 2012. A weekend in Philly + helping God's hurting people = a weekend that will change your life. This year we'll be bunking up with Broad Street Ministries. BSM is a very established church and mission group in Philadelphia. We'll be sleeping over at their facility, eat most of our meals there, and then follow their leaders out into the city to serve God's people. The cost of this event is $55 dollars which covers all expenses except one meal out on Saturday night. God's people are hurting in Philly. Will you go help heal the broken?
