‘Iron Sharpens Iron’
Hopewell Men to attend regional event on Sat., Oct. 2
It has been five years since we last attended Promise Keepers, but the experience continues to last a lifetime. On Oct. 2nd we once again have the opportunity to experience God moving within a large group of men as we worship Him together. All within 1.5 hours from Hopewell.
Don't be closed out from this mega-men's event, featuring Steve Farrar (author and National Speaker), Reggie Dabbs (MC from Promise Keepers), 18 different seminars, masculine worship led by The Guy Band, dozens of exhibitors and men from across the region. Men of all ages and stages will experience a powerful one-day conference that will equip you for ministry and life, encourage you for the challenges you face and connect you to like-hearted men. Journey to Mountain Christian Church in Joppa MD with your buddies, neighbors, work colleagues and sons and fathers. The Iron Sharpens Iron Conference is Oct. 2nd from 8:30am to 4:55pm. We will leave Hopewell at 6:30am. To qualify for the $39 group rate, quick response is required. Sports at Hopewell
Hopewell is one of 12 churches in the area that participates in the year-round Downingtown Area Christian Sport League, which includes volleyball, basketball, and softball. The objective of the sports league is to offer an opportunity for athletic competition for participating churches' members (or associates) based upon Christian fellowship. We view the sports program as simply another small group within the church body, with an emphasis on athletics.
Hopewell has been very successful over the years in its athletic endeavors. With two levels of competition, there's something for everyone, no matter the skill or interest level. Competition is offered in two brackets: Competitive (A League) for more serious players; and Recreation (B League), where games are played strictly in the spirit of fun. This format follows through in each of the three sports seasons.
Basketball: Our Men's basketball begins in early January with some practices starting late in December. We may not be able to field a team this year if we do not have some new players come out. This is a great small group ministry based on Christian fellowship through sports (and the only small group where you get to sweat!). Please consider playing with us this year. Call Ken Lehman or Dick Pry if you are interested.
Softball: Softball kicks off the summer in May, with games played at six or seven fields in our immediate area. Hopewell's "A" team has won the league championship two years in a row.
Volleyball: Coed volleyball begins in September and runs through early December. Matches are played at Hopewell and at East Brandywine Baptist Church.
