Helping Christians Grow, Helping Grow Christians

Youth Ministry Staff

Jon Marcus -- Director, Youth Ministry

What brought you to Hopewell?
Well the whole process started on the internet, as most things do now-a-days. I found the job advertised on a youth ministry website. But when I saw the ad, I was very interested. Though I never lived in Downingtown, I spent a lot of time growing up in the West Chester area. So I was really interested in serving near my “stomping grounds.” But I’ve also heard GREAT things about this staff and the church. And so far, all of that hearsay has been true!

What got you into youth ministry?
I think a lot of ministers go into youth ministry looking at it as a “stepping stone” to the place they really want to be. That’s not me. I’m not saying that I’ll always do youth ministry, but I’m not doing it to get me somewhere, but to show some REALLY important people The Way. Teenagers are the future, and they can change the world. They can do some AWESOME things with God’s power if they only believe they can.

What do you do to chill/relax?
Go to a Phillies game, play music, or playing some weird ninja game some Hopewell students taught me. Of course, nothing beats relaxing at my home with my beautiful wife.

What is something that people may not know about you?
Well, I have two; a serious thing and a quirk. Serious: I was in a terrible car wreck in 2004 that left me with some injuries. I should have died, but instead I just have a slightly bad back and a pupil that doesn’t dilate with the other. Ask me about it sometime, it’s a cool story! As for the quirk: I have a little...ok more than a little...obsession with Superman things.

Any closing thoughts?
I’m a guy who doesn’t really like “cheesy” things (cheese steaks are more than ok!). I desire meaningful, authentic experiences and relationships. You may hear me say “politically correct” things, but I never say things I don’t believe.

Oh, and I LOVE Pringles...mmm...
